Lamellar and woven bone

  • With regard to the spatial organization of the extracellular substance lying between the bone cells, the bone matrix, a distinction is made between two types of bone:
  • In the woven bone, the collagen fibers of the bone matrix run criss-cross and are thus intertwined.
  • Lamellar bones: In the lamellar bone, the collagen fibers run parallel.
