Other Variabilites:

Arctic Oscillation (AO) or Northern Annular Mode (NAM): Positive= low surface pressure in the region leading to a higher level of westerly winds, leading to warmer temperatures in North America and Northern Europe during winter. In negative phase, the level travels further south (weaker circumpolar winds allow cold arctic winds to travel southwards) leading to much colder winters in North America and Northern Europe.

Atlantic Multi-decadal Oscillation (AMO): North Atlantic SST anomalies

Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) cooler SST in the northern pacific, affecting NA winter temperatures
