Non-probability sampling - Wrap Up

  • In general, it is very hard or impossible to get representative samples using non-probability sampling

  • Thus, it is also very hard or impossible to make inferences about a population from the information contained in such a sample

  • However, that does mean that non-probability sampling is useless

  • Even though it is not recommended for descriptive or causal research, it can be used in exploratory research to generate ideas, insights, or hypotheses (e.g. low cost, convenient, appropriate)
