Hypothesis Testing - One Sided Tests

H0: the parameter (e.g., mean) of the variable is ≥ or ≤ :

  • A specific number (one sample): “The average age is ≥ 40”.

  • Across different groups (two samples): “Branded beers are liked at most as much as unbranded beers”.

 H1: the parameter of the variable is < or > :

  • A specific number (one sample): “The average age is < 40”.

  • Across different groups (two samples): “Branded beers are liked more than unbranded beers.”
