Explain why this is a myth of language learning (Lightbrown & Spada):
1. Languages are mainly learned through imitation.

1) Many first learners produce sentences they never heard before based on their developing understanding of how the language system works.
2) Learners do more than internalize a list of imitated and memorized sentences. They also identify patterns in the language and extend them to new contexts.
3) even children only imitate selectively certain words or structures.
4) Children who imitate less learn as quickly as others.
5) imitation is individual, not a universal characteristic of learners.
