How to teach ICC

1) Gradual development (start in elementary school)
2) one step at a time: from intercultural learning to ICC
3) funktionale kommunikative Kompetenz cannot really be separated from ICC
4) Byrams model helps to understand the complex process
5) individual ICC: everyone has a different learner background/third place
6) Teaching ICC is a broader concept than the traditional “Landeskunde” BUT: knowledge about target cultures is an essential part of teaching ICC. 
7) Input: Offer your students a variety of authentic texts (different genres, written, oral texts, audiovisual texts) to reflect multiple and varied perspectives.
8) Reflect yourself & the mindset of students to be able to work
9) Discuss stereotypes with students, but avoid oversimplification of cultures
10) Show them different perspectives again & again.
