Constructing the EU

What are the core assumptions of constructivism? (I)

1. Social reality is constructed and reproduced by humans through their daily practices
  • Interests: socially constructed rather than pre-given
  • Human agents: no existence Independent from social Environment and collectively shared Systems of meaning
  • interests of actors not treated as exogenously inferred from a given material structure but from ideas, political culture, informal institutions, social construction or interest matter
  • regularities are the result of collective understandings about appropriate behavior (norms)
