The change drive

Change subpersonalities are not so attached to form as maintenance types are. Change subpersonalities wake up one day and have a different view or vision of things and will disrupt what is already there in the name of what is new, untried or unknown. Maintenance subpersonalities sign a contract and ten years later they will uphold that contract, even if they feel very different about things now. Change subpersonalities will act on the idea of something new, while maintenance types are attached to existing forms.

The signs I first associate with change are Aries, Sagittarius, Gemini and Aquarius. If someone has a Gemini Sun, Sagittarius rising and an Aries Moon, you don't necessarily have a sense of them sticking to one thing for very long. The planets I associate with change are Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and, of course, Mercury. The elements of fire and air are more prone to subpersonalities based on change.

Change sub-personalities may have the attitude that all boundaries and barriers are bad and are not to be recognised. They can be attached to change because of a fear of rooting or settling. They hate to lose any alternatives, therefore they don't stick with any one thing. They may not give enough credence to the limits of one's humanity and commit a kind of hubris by aiming too high or being too idealistic. Like Prometheus, they may try to steal fire from the Gods and be punished. You don't get a Virgo thinking that everything is possible. Earth says, “Wait a minute, you are going overboard.” Aries, Sagittarius or Aquarius will say, “No—if you believe it, you can make it happen.” Change subpersonalities have something of the eternal youth (the puer) in them. Maintenance subpersonalities have more of senex.
