Libra

Ruler:  Venus
Both Venus and Libra are connected to the idea of relationship and human interaction – in this sign, the need for relationship is heightened, giving rise to strong desire for finding common ground with others. On the other hand, keeping the peace may become elevated over the equally important human need to fight one’s corner.

Exaltation:  Saturn     
Traditionally, the planet of rules and guidelines functions effectively in the sign of justice and harmony. However, there can be a tendency for Saturn in Libra to play the judge or to elevate matters of principle above more humanistic considerations.

Detriment:  Mars        
Mars in Libra is traditionally considered to be ‘weakly’ placed – and indeed, it may be hard for the person to make an instant decision or to act in their own self-interest. However, individuals with this placement may be particularly moved to take action in the face of unfairness or injustice – and they (and others) may come to value very highly the grace and even-handedness they are able to display in fighting their battles.

Fall:  Sun         
Traditionally, the Sun is said not to function well in Libra, an intellectual sign concerned with equality – there might be an inherent paradox in trying to shine one’s light at the same time as trying to give equal consideration to someone else. On the other hand, the individual with this placement may make a particular effort to develop a sense of identity which rests on just this very principle – someone for whom interpersonal relationship is at the heart of their accomplishments.
